Well, here goes...
Let's start off with a simple question:
Have you ever waited in line for a roller coaster?
I'm sure most people can relate to how that feeling is when you're just waiting, and waiting, and waiting ... slowly moving towards the ride. Then, when you finally get up to the ride, you're a little anxious, and excited (especially if it's a new ride or one that you've never been on before).
Then, you realize that the person you're waiting with (or group of people), are kind of having the same emotions as you?
Well, that's how Superintendent's Day is for me.
I'm all excited, but more anxious to get on the roller coaster ...I mean ... to start the school year... then I have been in a long while (probably about 12 months to be exact).
It's the unknown.
It's the slow climb up the hill.
It's the fast drop at the beginning... and then the swooping around and looping up through that is just like the first few days of school that makes it such an interesting ride... I absolutely love it.
People who know me can see it in my eyes, and I can hardly contain myself. I just want to get on the roller coaster and start riding! Just like I want to meet the students and start learning their names, and their likes, their dislikes, etc. etc.
But the attendant says I need to wait. "Hold on buddy. We have to go over some training first. Make sure that you can fit into that seat, and everybody is safe and secure." Just like we have to have some meetings as a district, then as a school, then as a grade level... just to make sure everybody's on the same page. "Come on already!" I'm thinking... let's just get started!!!"
THAT'S how I view Superintendent's Day... like getting ready to ride a roller coaster.
The next thing I know is that the attendant gets on his loudspeaker before the ride begins and says: "All right everyone... make sure your seat belts are fastened, and hopefully you enjoy the ride. Blog #1 is now complete... tower... we're ready for takeoff."
The question for you is: "Are you ready to ride the POWERFUL Program roller coaster?"
Don't worry... it has lots of twists and turns, and definitely takes your breath away.
One down... 184 to go... just try not to scream, OK?
