Really think about that.
What stands out for YOU in elementary school?
In Middle School?
In High School?
Chances are, the memories (or visual pictures) that you might have are negative in nature.
Why is that?
Well, I think it's human nature to focus on situations that have made an emotional impact on your life, and usually that deals with negative things ... rather than the day after day "positives."
I tell my student teachers all the time..."I could be teaching the greatest lesson EVER... but if just one of my students was called a name, or picked on, or bullied, THAT student will remember the negativity of that moment ... rather than the awesome lesson we just had."
That's why it's so important to "be there."
Be there for the walking in part of the day.
Be there for the extra help when a child says "I'm not done with that yet... WAIT!!!"
Be there for the words of encouragement that THAT child will hear for maybe the only time that day.
Be there for the end of the day when they might not want to go home.
That's how much of an impact you might have.
Wow. Really think about that.
