It was just the number that they gave me, and I really had no affiliation or emotional attachment to it at the time.
Funny how times change.
Think about your favorite number.
Why is it that number?
An old jersey number? A favorite player? An address? A wedding anniversary? A birthday?
Recently, I had a chance to speak in front of 60 people at a Division 1 University about "The P.O.W.E.R.F.U.L. Program." I had a chance to tell them about how the program was "born" and what goes into it on a daily basis. Stories of sitting in the car with my wife talking about what the program should be called, was wrapped around stories of current students that have jobs for me now. It was truly an honor.
I told them about how I became a teacher, after hurting my knee ... and going to a totally different college than I had dreamed of.
I told them stories of ups, downs, and "all arounds" as it pertained to what we do in our class each day.
What I didn't tell them was ... what my favorite number is ... and why.
Someday, I'll share it, but it's quite personal, and you might not even understand it.
That's not the point, though.
The point is... we ALL have a story to tell, we ALL have favorite numbers, and dreams, and visions of what the future will look like.
Enjoy the moment you're in right now, and celebrate the successes you've had, because no one knows when it will all come to an end.
My basketball career came to an end that cold, snowy December night way back in 1990... but my life didn't end.
It was just the beginning...
... the beginning of a great ride.
I hope you decide to join me on this ride, because I have a feeling it's going to start to pick up some speed.
Faster than 40 MPH... I can guarantee that!!!!
