The first few days that I go in to my classroom to get it ready for the upcoming year are definitely the toughest.
You literally could do 100 different things, and not feel like you even made a dent.
Today, I made a dent.
I feel like the flow of the classroom is better than it was last year, and that is important. I try to visualize the traffic patterns throughout the day in an elementary classroom because I want them to be moving at least once every 10 or 15 minutes (that's one of the main reasons I have tables instead of desks... it forces them to go get materials).
In regards to the POWERFUL Program, I am always looking to improve it somehow. This year for instance, I'm going to post their jobs on a bulletin board rather than on a movable "tri-fold" board that I was using the last few years. Main reason? It was just getting old and tattered. The bulletin board I'm using is near the door and in a perfect spot for all to see as they enter and exit the room.
I also rearranged my classroom store. Condensing it seemed like a logical choice. Last year it was just too spread out. Pretty hard for the store managers to keep it nice and tidy... but it should help for this year.
Lots more to do... will go back at it again tomorrow, to see if I can finish that "dent."
