"No." I said.
"But that looks really cool how you're spinning the ball on your finger," she said.
"Well, OK. Here's what you do. First, you think of the basketball NOT like it's a globe.... because the Earth is on its axis, and it would fall right off. Then, you....."
I kept on going with explicit directions on how I taught myself earlier that year how to spin the ball on MY finger. I could never do it. I could dunk the basketball, dribble between my legs, and numerous other things. But I could never spin it on my finger! Go figure.
Within about 5 minutes, she was spinning the ball on her finger, and she says to me:
"Wow, you should be a teacher."
And I did..and I still am learning each and every day how to improve my teaching, because not all students "get it" within about 5 minutes.
So my question for you is: "Why did YOU become a teacher?"
Leave a comment if you wish. I'd love to hear your story.
