We all have them.
So why do we have that uneasy feeling sometimes when we go to a meeting?
Here's my solution:
Sit in a circle!
Why a circle, you ask?
Well, think about it for a moment. If you're facing the person who's running the meeting... then you're just basically listening to what they have to say, and might periodically respond. This option is OK, but probably not the most effective. Just like in your classroom, if you have all the students just facing you, then a few of them respond usually.
If you sit in a circle, however, that shows that everyone's opinions are valued, and you'll notice the discussion flows a little more while people are more "in tune" to what the agenda is. I've tried this with my students often, and we have the BEST discussions when I set it up this way.
Efficiency is part of what I try to accomplish each day, and this is one area of my life that I've noticed a lot of time gets wasted ... when I could be doing something just a little more effective. Don't get me wrong, I feel that meetings are crucial in every business and organization, but it's how the meetings are structured that makes a huge difference.
What do you think?
Well, let's get in a circle and talk about it, then!
