Post #6 (of 20): Sign? What Sign?

Doesn't it seem like everywhere we look... there's a sign?

Signs seem to be everywhere.

From the grocery store, to the side of the road, to our schools, and even in our own house!

How many times do you pass a sign, though, and read it over and over again... day after day, and just not internalize it?

That seems to happen to me everyday day in our faculty room...until today, after what happened in a basketball game that I was a part of last night.

Me:    Walk in to faculty room. Say "Hi" to everyone. Get Keurig ready. Open fridge. Get creamer. Make coffee. Discuss whatever... with whomever. Say "bye", and then leave.

In the midst of all of that, there's a sign on the fridge that someone put up (I have no clue when) that says a quote from the great Martin Luther King:

"The time is always right to do what is right."

I walk by and look at that sign EVERY single day (because I need my coffee at about 12:34  PM each day)... and I smile... think about it for a second, and walk away.

How many people actually do the right thing all the time, though?

We're not perfect.

No one is.

But the quote isn't about being perfect, I believe.

It's really about taking the extra second (or extra minute) to think about what you're doing ... before carrying on with your day, and doing the right thing.

Too many times in life we feel that "we've been wronged" by someone.

That's on them.

Maybe they didn't see the sign.

I know I did, and I'll try to remember it whether I'm teaching, parenting, out in public, refereeing, presenting to adults, etc., etc.

Why?

Well, because the time is always right to do what is right... right?

It's way too important not to in the profession that we're in.

What saying or sign hits home with you? Tell me about it.

Let's start a discussion...

As for the basketball game... you'll have to use your imagination. That story is for another day and time...

This page is dedicated to my career that has so far spanned 20 years. I will write 20 total blogs, and you won't know exactly when they're coming. If I have a memory of something that I think would benefit you from my experience... I'll blog about it. Enjoy!
