Not wanting it to be some kind of "gimmick", I use this method only occasionally, and the students love it when I do use it. Here's what we do:
If sometime during the day...I just get "blown away" by what someone does or says, I have them go over and pick out of my "gum bucket" for a little extra treat.
Now, I really don't use it all of the time, and they can't tell me that I'm being "blown away".... it's just a feeling that I get when they do something that is extra special.
And of course, I have a "job" for it... someone to keep track for us on a checklist of all the people who have "blown me away." Would you expect anything less????
This certainly helps so that I can try to get everyone involved... which they do, and now they're all trying that extra special hard ... to "blow me away" with their work or comments. It kind of turns their learning up a notch you might say.
Disclaimer: Can't take credit for this idea... as my wife and daughter came up with it. Thanks girls!!! YOU blew me away with this idea!!!!
